Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. -Ephesians 6 10-20
It’s time for battle! Like the scripture above says, Christians are in a fight against spiritual wickedness. Paul used the Roman military’s armor to illustrate what we should be arming ourselves with, daily.
I realize that in our world today, we may not identify with an ancient Roman shield, helmet and sword. And, to be sure, the devil isn’t using darts, but serious ammo on God’s people. So, applying some of today’s military body armor, a modern version may look something like this: the ballistic helmet of salvation, a tactical vest of righteousness, combat boots of the gospel, an AR-15 of the Spirit and so on…
This may only be a lighthearted approach, but it’s to stress the point. The war is not over yet and we are apart of it. If we’re not prepared to fight the enemy (‘spiritual wickedness’) then we will fall.
We need to be aware of the world around us and that the true enemy is an invisible one with visible results. We need to read God’s word and learn more about the enemy and how to defend ourselves and our families against them. We need to daily put on the whole armor of God. And we need to be in prayer, always; asking for help, strength, guidance, protection and wisdom in this battle.
MEN- WAKE UP, READ UP, SUIT UP, PRAY UP!!!!
Until next time…
