The Wrath of God

And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;  And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.  And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand? Revelation 6:12-17

A lot of people are quick to quote that “God is love”. They aren’t as eager to talk about Him as an “all consuming fire.”

In the scripture reference above, we read just one example of what is coming for those who do not trust Jesus Christ as their Lord. Read the text carefully, and then think about it for a minute or two. Can you imagine MOUNTAINS and islands being moved?!? That’s an earthquake that the Richter Scale couldn’t measure!

What do the “prosperity preachers” say about verses like this? Do they even talk about it? Does YOUR pastor ever talk about this?

Many pastors won’t touch the subject, and many in their congregations don’t want to hear it. But, just because no one talks about it doesn’t mean it won’t happen!

Yes, God IS love. Yes, God loves everybody… but He hates sin! That means that a person can’t remain in sin. If you’re a homosexual you would have to stop living that lifestyle. If you are an adulterer, then you have to stop living in adultery. If you are a liar, a thief, a murderer… (I think you get my point), YOU CAN’T CONTINUE IN YOUR SIN!

If we do continue in sin, what’s described in this passage is just a small portion of what we have to look forward to.

Don’t take my word for it; open the Bible and read it for yourself.

BUT, there is a way out…

IF you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you will be covered by His blood. You can be saved for all eternity. That’s more important to me than a few more fleeting years living in sin.

The decision is yours. The Bible says to work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. Today is the day to make the decision; don’t wait until it’s too late.

PS- Pray for the 40,000 people stranded on a mountain in Iraq. They are Christians and other religious minorities, starving and thirsting to death. ISIS (the Islamic State) has them trapped without food or water in blistering heat. If something isn’t done, this will be a massacre.

Just something to think about.

Until next time…

Prepping for the Future…

Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?  (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. Matthew 6:31-34

Look around at YouTube long enough and you’ll find a host of “preppers.” These are people preparing for a future disastrous event, whether it be government take over, financial collapse, natural mega-disaster and the list goes on. They teach you how to store food, guns and ammunition. They tell you about having a “bug out bag” ready so you are ready to leave at a moment’s notice.

Now, I’m not knocking these people or anyone that is storing up for ‘whatever.’ I believe it’s alright to have a couple of months of food set back. If some type of natural disaster hits, it may be good to have some beans and rice set back or something to that effect. But, I don’t believe that if something major happens (like the government turning against it’s people) that we’ll be able to store enough food and water to survive very long. Just as an example, if you’re out running through the woods and fighting and doing hard-core physical labor or exercise, you would have to have at least a gallon of water a day, just to drink.  So how would a person be able to “bug-out” with enough water for 2 or 3 days ? During WWII, there was a resistance movement. The Jews that took to the woods weren’t able to take enough food and water with them. They had to rely on the farmers in the area for help. They told about how hard it was to find enough water to live.

If you’re into this kind of stuff… more power to you. But I’d like to tell you another way to prepare for the future. Jesus tells us to store up our treasures in Heaven. We should be prepping for the return of Jesus. We should have our spiritual bug-out bag ready to leave at a moment’s notice. If someone comes to you for food, are you going to turn them away? Are you going to stick a 12-gauge shotgun in their face and tell them to leave or they’ll die? That is not the example that Jesus gives.

But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also. And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain. Matthew 5:39-41

Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. Matthew 26:52

The Bible also teaches us that we should love our neighbors as we love ourselves. Could you, as a Christian, turn people away and have a clear conscience about it?  If you don’t show mercy, how do you expect to be shown mercy? If we don’t show compassion, how can we be shown compassion?

We could go on and on about this from both sides, it all boils down to this… We need to be ready to meet the Lord, and once we’ve made that preparation, we should tell others how to prepare as well. We are also to be used as Jesus’ hands and feet to help meet the needs of others. That is how we store up for our future, or “lay up treasures in Heaven”.

When we stand before Jesus, will we say’ “Lord, I helped my neighbor;” or are we going to say’ “Lord, I stuck a shotgun in his face and ran him off because I was afraid I was going to go hungry.” Just something to think about.

Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal. Matthew 25:41-46

Are You Ready?

Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh. -Matthew 25:1-13

The above scripture is often called “The Parable of the Ten Virgins.” Here, Jesus is speaking of being ready for the the return of the Bridegroom, which is Jesus Christ, Himself. This parable is telling us to always be looking; to always be ready. As the Church, we are the bride of Christ. The return of Jesus is imminent. This word simply means “any minute.”

The five foolish virgins asked the others for oil and the others wouldn’t give them any. This shows that you can’t get “in” on someone else’s coat tails. The Scripture tells us that we must “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling” (Philippians 2:12).

Now, I could help lead you or point you in the right direction… but it falls completely on your own shoulders; you have to make your own decision and KNOW that you’re prepared. The Lord made it pretty easy for us to be prepared. All we have to do is accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, confess our sins and turn away from them to follow Him and BELIEVE.

Some teach that the oil could represents the Holy Spirit. We believe that when we accept Christ, the Holy Spirit enters us.
There may not be a visible difference between the Christian that is ready and the professing person that never truly believed. You can read The Parable of the Wheat and the Tares. There is no difference in the appearance of the wheat and the weed, but there’s nothing on the inside of the tare. Also see the scripture where Jesus tells us that there will be some that will be rejected because He never knew them.

So, are you ready? Do you know without a shadow of a doubt that you are ready for His return, or are you like the five foolish virgins and not be ready?

I believe that, with the way things are going today, that we may be closer than you think. Don’t be caught unaware!!!

Until next time…

KNOW That You Know…

Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. Philippians 2:12

We’re not guaranteed one more minute on this Earth!

That being said, I want to share a story. I heard this a long time ago and it has stuck with me ever since…

There was a husband and wife and they had two sons. One son was 17 and the other 13. On a Sunday morning, the mother and father were up getting ready for church. The 17 year-old was still in the bed asleep. The 13 year-old was up, but his parents didn’t know he was awake. He had gotten up, went into his parents’ room and was looking at his father’s 30/30 rifle. The boy, messing with the gun, put a round in the chamber. (As you know, when you put one in the chamber, it automatically cocks the gun.) The boy tried to ease the hammer down, when it slipped from under his thumb and the gun went off. The bullet went through a dresser drawer and a wall and struck his brother in the head. The father heard the round go off and, running into his room, saw the 13 year-old with the gun. He saw the direction the bullet had traveled, so he went into the boys’ room and saw his older son lying there.

Of course, you could only imagine what this family must have felt. I can tell you story after story like this that I’ve heard over my lifetime. That’s why I said we are not guaranteed another moment. We don’t know when our time might be up.

So, I ask you this…

Do you KNOW that you are right with God?

Did you make some type of profession of faith years ago, but in actuality have not been living for the Lord at all? Are you out of God’s will, or backslidden? Or maybe someone reading this blog hasn’t accepted Christ at all.

We don’t want to think about stories like this. We don’t want to think about death. We want to believe that these things won’t happen to us. It seems like we walk around with our heads in the clouds not wanting to face reality. I think it’s time to wake up and examine yourselves spiritually.

If  you’ve never accepted Christ, I would say that now is the time to accept Him. (Click here for more on what it means and how to be saved.) If you’ve backslid, then now is the time to make it right. I assure you, you will be accepted back, just as the prodigal son was accepted by his father… with open arms. (See Luke 15:11-32)

I don’t know if this short message is for anyone or not. It may very well be. It’s just something I would think about.

Until next time…
