The Wrath of God

And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;  And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.  And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand? Revelation 6:12-17

A lot of people are quick to quote that “God is love”. They aren’t as eager to talk about Him as an “all consuming fire.”

In the scripture reference above, we read just one example of what is coming for those who do not trust Jesus Christ as their Lord. Read the text carefully, and then think about it for a minute or two. Can you imagine MOUNTAINS and islands being moved?!? That’s an earthquake that the Richter Scale couldn’t measure!

What do the “prosperity preachers” say about verses like this? Do they even talk about it? Does YOUR pastor ever talk about this?

Many pastors won’t touch the subject, and many in their congregations don’t want to hear it. But, just because no one talks about it doesn’t mean it won’t happen!

Yes, God IS love. Yes, God loves everybody… but He hates sin! That means that a person can’t remain in sin. If you’re a homosexual you would have to stop living that lifestyle. If you are an adulterer, then you have to stop living in adultery. If you are a liar, a thief, a murderer… (I think you get my point), YOU CAN’T CONTINUE IN YOUR SIN!

If we do continue in sin, what’s described in this passage is just a small portion of what we have to look forward to.

Don’t take my word for it; open the Bible and read it for yourself.

BUT, there is a way out…

IF you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you will be covered by His blood. You can be saved for all eternity. That’s more important to me than a few more fleeting years living in sin.

The decision is yours. The Bible says to work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. Today is the day to make the decision; don’t wait until it’s too late.

PS- Pray for the 40,000 people stranded on a mountain in Iraq. They are Christians and other religious minorities, starving and thirsting to death. ISIS (the Islamic State) has them trapped without food or water in blistering heat. If something isn’t done, this will be a massacre.

Just something to think about.

Until next time…

You Can’t Take It With You…. or CAN You?!?

And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;  And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. Luke 16:22-23

(Read Luke 16:19-31 Here)

I know you’ve probably heard the old saying, “I’ve never seen a hearse pulling a U-Haul.”  It’s true, you can’t take your possessions with you. You can be buried with them.  The Egyptians buried the Pharaoh with his treasures. But, hundreds of years later, archaeologists dig up the grave and find the treasures still there. No matter how we try, our “stuff” is not going to be with us in eternity.

But, with that said, there are a couple of things we do take with us…

Our memory and our conscience.

Do those who end up in hell remember the opportunities they had to accept Jesus and refused? I believe so.  While being tormented in hell, The rich man remembered his brothers. He wanted someone to go warn them about hell.  He knew that repentance would have saved him from hell, and wanted his brothers to know; not just hear it but believe it! His conscience made him know that he messed up, but he didn’t want that for the people he loved.

Have you ever had a memory remind you of something wrong you’ve done? I believe that those who go to hell will continue to be tormented by their memories.

In contrast, scripture tells us that in heaven, there will be no more sorrow, pain and tears (Rev. 21). We will be fully relieved form the memories that cause us pain because our sins are removed from us (Psalm 103). There won’t be anything left to cause us to feel guilt or pain.

Even as Christians, we have a tendency to let out memories bring up things from the past that cause hurt feeling or guilt. But, don’t let it get you down too far; we all have these thoughts from time to time. One day, that will all be taken care of.

Just something to think about.

Until next time…

KNOW That You Know…

Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. Philippians 2:12

We’re not guaranteed one more minute on this Earth!

That being said, I want to share a story. I heard this a long time ago and it has stuck with me ever since…

There was a husband and wife and they had two sons. One son was 17 and the other 13. On a Sunday morning, the mother and father were up getting ready for church. The 17 year-old was still in the bed asleep. The 13 year-old was up, but his parents didn’t know he was awake. He had gotten up, went into his parents’ room and was looking at his father’s 30/30 rifle. The boy, messing with the gun, put a round in the chamber. (As you know, when you put one in the chamber, it automatically cocks the gun.) The boy tried to ease the hammer down, when it slipped from under his thumb and the gun went off. The bullet went through a dresser drawer and a wall and struck his brother in the head. The father heard the round go off and, running into his room, saw the 13 year-old with the gun. He saw the direction the bullet had traveled, so he went into the boys’ room and saw his older son lying there.

Of course, you could only imagine what this family must have felt. I can tell you story after story like this that I’ve heard over my lifetime. That’s why I said we are not guaranteed another moment. We don’t know when our time might be up.

So, I ask you this…

Do you KNOW that you are right with God?

Did you make some type of profession of faith years ago, but in actuality have not been living for the Lord at all? Are you out of God’s will, or backslidden? Or maybe someone reading this blog hasn’t accepted Christ at all.

We don’t want to think about stories like this. We don’t want to think about death. We want to believe that these things won’t happen to us. It seems like we walk around with our heads in the clouds not wanting to face reality. I think it’s time to wake up and examine yourselves spiritually.

If  you’ve never accepted Christ, I would say that now is the time to accept Him. (Click here for more on what it means and how to be saved.) If you’ve backslid, then now is the time to make it right. I assure you, you will be accepted back, just as the prodigal son was accepted by his father… with open arms. (See Luke 15:11-32)

I don’t know if this short message is for anyone or not. It may very well be. It’s just something I would think about.

Until next time…
